Icon history
Easy SVG Pro keeps earlier drawings of your icons. Preview an older version and bring one icon back to it, without changing its name or address.
Someone replaced an icon and the client liked the old one better? With icon history you can go back. Every save keeps a copy, and you can return a single icon to an earlier drawing after looking at it.
Before you start
- Your Pro license is active.
- Icon history is on under Icons → Features, group Icons and sets.
- History only starts from the moment you switch it on. Changes made before that are not kept.
How it works
- Every time an icon set is saved, a copy of its icons is kept. This uses WordPress's own revisions.
- The last ten saves are kept per set and per icon of the free library. Older ones are removed automatically.
- Restoring changes only the drawing. The icon's name and address never change, so every page, block and field that uses it keeps working.
- A restore is itself a save, so you can undo it the same way.
Restore an icon of a set
Open History
Go to Icons → History.
Pick the set
Choose the set under Icon set. Every icon of the set is listed with its earlier versions as small previews and dates.
Compare
The version marked in place now is the one in use. The others show when they were saved, for example "unchanged since" a date.
Restore
Click Restore under the version you want. The icon shows that drawing again, everywhere.
Restore an icon from the Icon library grid
You can also go back from the grid, for icons of sets and of the free library:
Open the tile menu
In Icons → Icon library, open the More menu of an icon and click Earlier versions….
Choose a version
The dialog Earlier versions of the icon shows each drawing with its date. The current one is marked In use. Click Restore on the one you want.
Good to know
- Only drawings are kept. History is about how an icon looks. A deleted icon or a deleted set cannot be brought back from here; for sets, look in the trash.
- Folder icons have no history. They come from files, so use your file versioning (for example Git) instead.
- Client swaps are kept too. If a client replaced an icon in client mode, you find the previous drawing here.
